The grade 1 & 2 students have been learning about the design process. They've tested materials and joining methods and have designed and made a door hanger and a robot. Great fun has been had writing simple code to instruct their robot to move through a maze. The students have also been using ScratchJr and Robot School on the iPads while investigating coding.
As part of the unit about Community, the students have been busy investigating the services provided in our local community. A visit from an ambulance officer and a nurse helped them answer questions that they had posed. In groups, they designed their own suburb and transferred their designs into 3D models. The students also designed and made a magnet to advertise a community service.
As part of our unit of work on Sustainability, the students have made posters to advertise the collection of ring pulls from cans. The ring pulls are then donated to organisations who sell them. The money from the ring pulls has been used by one group to fund the production of prosthetic limbs for land mine victims. Please support the cause and send ring pulls to school.
