Welcome to Mullum Primary School,
As Principal of Mullum Primary School for just under three years, it has been pleasing to see our student learning data continue to improve. Our 4 year average in Mathematics now places us in the category of a “high achieving” school; with Spelling and Reading demonstrating the same level of high achievement for the 2015 year.
Of course this would not be possible without the strong belief of efficacy amongst our teaching staff and the persistence of our students. Our students look forward to meeting with their parents and teachers to set their own learning goals and continuous review occurs within the classroom.
Our teachers are super! They work hard, striving for excellence and continually reflect upon and review theirs and their colleagues’ practices, ensuring that they are providing the best learning opportunities for each child. Our teachers see the relationships they develop with each student as being of the utmost importance. This is clearly visible as you walk through our school and observe the interaction between them.
As a recently Accredited International School we embrace our families who represent various cultures. Our English Assisted Language (EAL) Program not only helps new students to quickly settle into our school, but we also work hard to ensure that the whole family is quickly welcomed to our community and involved in our events.
At Mullum we offer many extra-curricular events. These include Instrumental music, lunch time dance classes, choir and Karate. We also offer the following clubs: Minecraft, knitting, garden, board games, card games, “Chill Time”, Library and other social groups. We are fortunate to be able to provide the students with the services of a School Chaplain twice a week. She is a great shoulder to lean on and she offers an ear for any problem. Our Chaplain also runs a Breakfast program every Thursday morning which many families utilise - not to mention the local youth Pastor who brings his coffee machine to those Breakfasts every Thursdays, to make coffee for parents!
Recently we received State Government funding to build a Community Performing Arts area. This is going to allow for an additional learning space, a new performance stage and undercover areas for our community to congregate. This project also includes the development of a Master Plan to renovate and extend school classrooms in the main building, which one day we hope we will receive funding to implement. Locally raised funds also contribute to projects around the school. New buildings are always delightful however we always believe that what goes on inside the building is the most important aspect of learning.
Our year 5 and 6 students now have the opportunity to enjoy eating lunch in our school kitchen, where a microwave and toaster maker are available to them, for heating up their lunches. A local café is used for phone-in lunch orders, which are delivered to the school for all year levels upon request. This is a great option for those times when you realise there is no bread, or the fruit bowl is empty!
Mullum Primary School not only wants your child to be a successful and happy member of our community but we also want to engage with their families. We offer many social and fundraising activities throughout the year which families can attend. We also have more than 50 parents and grandparents who volunteer their time as Classroom Helpers.
Want to know more? Then please do not hesitate to make a personal appointment to chat with me. I will gladly walk you around our school and answer any of your questions.
