The Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program is taught at Grades 3 and 4.
Each week the children spend time in the garden working and learning about plants, in particular the production of food.
Using seeds, cuttings and seedlings they learn about the needs of different plants through observation and discussion. Journals are kept noting changes in plants.
They also spend time in the kitchen each week reading and following recipes, mainly using fresh vegetables and herbs (some sourced from our garden).
The safe use of tools is taught and healthy eating choices are promoted.
Other focusses include the development of teamwork skills, communication, experimentation and reflection.
