Chesterfield Farm

Foundation students have been learning all about animals and their features and needs as part of their Science topic this term. Yesterday, the students were able to apply this learning during their excursion to Chesterfield Farm. The students had hands on experiences in seeing fun demonstrations on how to care for animals, as well as having a go at feeding them. It was a wonderful day of fun and interactive learning!

Wear It Purple

Inclusion is a big part of the work we do with all students all year long.  It crops up when we discuss: the language we use when we speak to others; the respect we show for all members of our community; when we listen to other peoples perspectives; when we accept all people for who they are.

Students wore a touch of purple as one way to show that we care and include all people.

Crack the Code

We always aim to read with accuracy, fluency, and prosody (not too fast, not too slow – but just right as Goldilocks would say) We look carefully at the vocabulary contained in the text and decode unfamiliar words by applying our knowledge of letter- sound relationships, using our understanding of morphology (the meaningful parts that make up a word), and by trying to understand the word in the context of the story.

During one investigation we looked at the many different words authors used instead of the word ‘said’. We discovered that we could sort them into groups according to their purpose and intensity.
